LET THAT NEWS SINK IN!
It was one of those ‘sinking feelings’ you experience when unexpected news is delivered. In this case, the news came in the form of learning our latest shipment was aboard the ill-fated APL England, which as was widely reported, lost 40 containers at sea while en route to Melbourne.
While random items, such as surgical masks have been periodically washing ashore along a number of Sydney’s beaches in recent times, consistent with the ships manifest, the whereabouts of our own inbound stocks currently remain in limbo. Perhaps our container is still safely aboard the cargo hull, or perhaps it’s now resting on the ocean floor?
Time will tell, as now docked in Brisbane, the ship will undergo and extensive investigation process, to determine the cause of the dislodged containers and it will be after that process, that we will learn the whereabouts of our own shipment.
Should fortune dictate that our cargo is still Timberfix bound, we are pleased to announce that this new inbound arrival will boost our stock holdings. Should it come to pass that the fate of the container now lies somewhere within the sea basin off the Eastern coast of Australia, then we are equally pleased to advise that Timberfix is still well placed offer our customers a wide range of hardware, fasteners, site supplies & safety products.
In addition to the 40 containers actually lost from the APL England, it has been reported that a further 70 plus containers still on the ship, have sustained varying degrees of damage, which for the meantime at least, raises more questions until we learn the location and condition of our new items.
With the outcome likely to reveal some lessons, whether it’s the APL England with hundreds of shipping containers weighting countless tonnes, or the days equipment on the back of the company ute headed to the next site, it’s well worth remembering, to always ensure your load is safely secured!
As it happens, Timberfix can also help with a range of cargo nets, vehicle safety & transport tie down equipment. One can only wonder at this point, how differently the outcome may have been, had the deck hand of the APL England taken a moment to call 1300 888 729 before embarking on their journey?
A great irony may yet to be discovered, if one of the capsized containers is revealed to have been carrying such equipment!
